Laparoscopy Looming!
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have my laparoscopy on Friday and don't deal particularly well with stong pain killers as they generally make me sick (not what I want after a tummy incision)
Does anyone have any tips on how to ease the pain?
Also, does anyone have any tips for the procedure itself, I've just been told to turn up without food or drink?
Thank you in advance for any advice, it will be greatly appreciated.

I had an rx for I think Norco, but it didn't quite do the trick, so I supplemented with Advil and it helped a lot. Maybe see what your doc thinks about 800 mg ibuprofen plus a dose of Tylenol. Peppermint tea and the heating pad will help with the gas pain post-op. Shower before you go to the hospital, bc I was told not to shower until the next day once my op was done. It often takes longer than the doctors say to recover, so don't be hard on yourself if you're not climbing Everest the next week. Good luck 💛

Make sure you wear pants with a waistband. It sounds crazy, like you won't want anything pressing against your abdominal area, but trust me it helps. You are going to be swollen and feel like your insides are going to fall out of your belly button, the waistband will help hold everything while you walk. And try to walk to move the gas around. I didn't have any issues with the gas from my first surgery, but I was in so much pain from the gas after my second surgery. When you go to sleep use an extra pillow around your pelvic area. I found that having on under my lower back/bottom helped when I was laying on my back. When I would lay on my side I found that having my swollen stomach rest against the pillow was best. If I didn't have the pillow then my stomach would be pulled, by gravity, too much and cause pain.

I am the same way with pain killers... ask if they can prescribe some Phenergan.. it helps for nausea. .. just try not to eat for like at least 8 hours prior to surgery. id take only a sip of water if ya need it. I would be prepared on how bad you are gonna hurt after.... the air they pump you with is going to hurt for a few days. Remember its normal pain!! ... its not easy to prepare for what can happen..every case is different as far as recovery goes.. just have someone to help u get around the day of your surgery. I was not able to stand by myself or walk to the bathroom by myself. Good luck hun. Hope everything goes GREAT!

Thank you for your honesty! I really do appreciate it.
I'll be certainly asking the doctors about anti sickness tablets and prepping with a few more pillows and comfy pants 😂
Thank you ladies 😊
