No Laparoscopy? Should I Seek A Second Opinion?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

About 5 years ago due to my symptoms (extremely painful periods and pelvic pain during bowel movements during my period) my gyn suspected endometriosis.

Fast forward to a year ago more significant pain brought me to the doc again and she found fibroids, I had an ultrasound and discovered 2 fibroids and an endometrioma on my left ovary (5 cm). She put me on progesterone only bc and after some discussion said it didn't seem to be affecting my daily life we will stick to the bc and monitor my… read more

My dr always operates if a cyst is around or more than 5cm, especially if its an endometrioma. I would definitely seek another opinion

I would personally get a second opinion if you don't believe that she is truly in your healths best interest in treating your pain. You've got nothing to lose in seeing another provider and getting their opinion!

I would definitely suggest a second opinion. I had a large growth ( they were never sure what it was but they knew it wasn't cancerous) on my ovary. They wanted to remove it to ensure it didn't cut of blood supply to my ovary and just adding another potential issue for pregnancy down the track.

I think I must have a more aggressive doctor than most. I have been trying to get diagnosed for years with endo and the doctor I saw for 10 years wouldn't listen to it, but did put in an IUD. When I finally switched to the doctor I see now, he suggested surgery the first visit, even though we couldn't see actual endo in my tests. He also told me we are taking the IUD out as it can make things worse in his opinion, which I agree with since the pain became worse after the IUD. I'm only 1 day post surgery but I will say the only pain I'm having is soreness, I feel no cramps or like I'm being stabbed. I would tell your doctor you want it or find a new one.
