Does Anyone On Here Have Luck With Holistic Medicines?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had surgery almost five weeks ago, stage 4 endo, and my doctor wants me on birth control. She gave me the mini-pill since I'm extremely terrified of nausea/vomiting, but doing research scares me because I already have terrible anxiety and depression, and I don't want that to get worse. I was already supposed to take it, and my second cycle after surgery is about to start...and I have no idea what to do. There doesn't seem to be any proof that BC stops it from coming back, so what is the point… read more

Hi. I was on birth control for a year after my laparoscopy and I had depression and anxiety from it so I stopped it and decided to go the holistic route. There are supplements you can take. Check out estrosmart. Excess estrogen makes endometriosis worse so basically the supplement balances your hormones and gets rid of access estrogen. Also, take supplements to support your liver such as milk thistle because your liver is what rids your body of excess estrogen. Try to cut out sugar as much as possible. Check out this website http://www.natkringoudis.com and also look into yoni steaming. Google it. I’m going to start it in the next couple days and hope it helps. It looks promising. The holistic route takes more time to work and is more work on our end but it’s worth it to me. Our hormones need to be balanced and birth control only makes them more unbalanced. Birth control is only a band aid and is not even guaranteed to work. Treating your body as a whole and healing it will work. Also, avoid plastics at all costs and try to eat organic as much as possible especially meat. Non organic foods and plastics will increase unwanted estrogen in your body. I’m here if you need me.

Give alternative medicine a go if you want. Some things have helped- I'm not gonna say resolved because I don't believe they can, they can alleviate symptoms but only while I'm using them- but conventional, hormonal treaments and surgery are what have worked best. The alternative things that have helped are- aromatherapy. Clary sage, geranium, cinnamon, Roman chamomile all have a good effect. Cannabis. That helps more than anything. The endo diet- that helped but it was complicated, expensive and restrictive and I didn't enjoy what I was eating but that's probably me. Basically, no caffeine, no alcohol, no soya, no dairy was what might have made a difference but I couldn't swear to that and that's just common sense anyway. Evening Primrose, yeah that was ok. Saw Palmetto, yeah that helped. Have you considered getting help for your nausea/vomiting fear instead and going the conventional route? N&V is inevitable throughout life too. Endo feeds off hormones and nothing you can do holistically will alter your own body's function to the degree where how that works is affected to the point of over-riding endo, and a fear of nausea and vomiting is natural- N&V only happen when something unpleasant, disadvantageous, negative in some way is happening to our body so to not feel averse to that would be wrong. It may be helpful to remember there are tens of different BC pills out there now so what you experience with one won't be the same with another. There are also different methods of administration than a pill, these may work better for you. They don't all cause depression and anxiety- I have BPD too so I am more than aware of this as an issue but I've found brands that have caused me no issues, some that have caused me no end of issues but endo isn't something I can live with so I've kept going till I've found one that works, you just have to do that and put up with it till you succeed sometimes.

Hi there, I was on the pill (full combined rather than mini) for over 20 years - it was so good I didn't even know I had endo until a few years ago. To put it in perspective - I went to the doctor age 14 complaining of pain and nausea and was chucked on the pill (in hindsight they were classic endo symptoms!) and told things would even out as I got older. Between the ages of 14 and 35 I didn't have these symptoms again. At 35 my doc suggested switching to the mini pill as I'd been on the stronger one for years and years. Unfortunately that's when endo let loose. The mini pill (in my case) didn't have enough ammo to stop it, whereas the stronger combined pill kept it at bay for over 20 years - no other side effects whatsoever.

I have an issue with anxiety now - but never experienced that while I was on the pill. Maybe the regulated hormones are helpful there too? Don't forget, if at any time you feel like it's not working for you or you have side effects - you can just stop taking it, it's not permanent :-) Don't leave it too long though - if you decide to give it a go, it's best to get the hormones onboard before endo has a chance to take over again.

Please feel free to ask me anything about my experience with BC, if there's anything I can do to help ease your worry I'd be happy to :-)
