Has anyone else experienced horrible bloating AFTER surgery? I am almost 6 weeks PO. I am bloated on a daily basis and it seems to be getting worse. Also missed periods (not pregnant). I am not as concerned with the missed periods, as I am with this bloating. It does not seem normal to me. I look like I've gained weight because of it. I am very healthy, exercise daily, and this is ruining my life! Anyone with same symptoms please help!

First question is always going to be...Are your bowels moving? Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Perhaps take stool softeners or Miralax. It is imperative to keep the stool soft and moving. If it "sits" inside your colon, it becomes evil and causes bloating.

Dates, nuts and seeds are good dietary fiber, as well as leafy greens.

Same happened to me after hysterectomy and excisions through laparoscopic surgery. I looked 6 months pregnant for weeks and did have some constipation even with daily Miralax. My bowels just did not want to wake up. Walking was difficult for weeks. I didn't know it at the time but my ovaries went into shock and I had no estrogen for a couple months which gave relief from the endo but caused severe painful menopause symptoms (vaginal atrophy & anxiety/depression, hot flashes) that made healing slow and miserable. I was 48 in peri meno when I had my surgery so I think that was part of it as well (estrogen was already fluctuating low making for joint pain and slow healing). In general, it was a much harder surgery to recover from than expected for me who was otherwise fit and healthy. I have to go back in to have an ovary removed and more endo on the bowels removed a year and a half later as it grew back almost immediately and a once healthy ovary now has a big endometrioma on it causing severe pain. I'm not looking forward to recovering from that surgery again but am hoping it will be better than the hysterectomy for adenomyosis which was so bad. In the end, very gentle exercise (walking and hip curls - youtube has some recovery wkout videos that are helpful) and about 8 weeks of time when my ovaries kicked back in and started ovulating again was all that helped. It did go away but I remained unusually 'bloated' and tender for maybe 3 months after. Felt 'normal' again at 6 months but had a return of original endo symptoms by then.
