Adenomyosis, Hysterectomy & Fatigue
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had a hysterectomy and found a significant improvement in their fatigue? I have adenomyosis (and endo) - my pain is currently well controlled and I have no bleeding but I have significant fatigue which is really impacting my life. I know fatigue isn't the main symptom of adeno but I'm wondering if a hysterectomy would help so am interested to hear from anyone who's been very fatigued and had a hysterectomy, and whether it made any difference.

Thanks heaps!

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member You’re welcome. I never heard of it treating the adenomyosis yet either. And sure, many times a GP Can be limited in their scope, you know? I went to an actual endocrinologist to see what was going on with my thyroid and other hormones. My Rheumatalogist actually caught my thyroid levels being off recently because my GP refused to check the entire panel (just the TSH and free T4 won’t do it sometimes). And also different labs will have varied results cause they’re not as sensitive. Good luck!

Hi BrittanyHill,

Thanks for your response. No I haven't had a hysterectomy yet. And yep, I realise it's not a treatment for endometriosis - I was asking about it as a treatment for fatigue from adenomyosis. Thanks for the suggestion for looking into other things - my GP has done that and not found anything.

Hi Robyn, I hope you're doing well today. Have you had a hysterectomy already? I don't know exactly how to answer this totally; but I DO know that a hysterectomy isn't completely a treatment to rid endometriosis. I have had several friends get a hysterectomy and still suffer in pain and flares. One in particular, she had a partial hysterectomy with ovaries still intact and still has cysts & various flares because of the estrogen. I do know that for a certain age, doctors encourage women to keep their ovaries so they do not go into menopause too early (so it is kind of a catch 22 thing?) I have adenomyosis as well as endo (and two fibroids yet to be removed since my 2nd surgery) and I DO have fatigue even after getting my thyroid meds (have you checked that?) But fatigue can be caused by a number of things. And certainly having inflammation from those conditions can cause it, even if you aren't in pain. I don't know if a hysterectomy would be the first route to combat the fatigue especially since your pain is so well controlled? Perhaps go for blood tests: thyroid, iron, anemia, cortisol levels, any autoimmune conditions, etc. Hope that may help some.

I had laproscopic in '98 and ablation in '09. I am now being scheduled for vaginal hysterectomy and also laproscopic to see if endometriosis is back again..ugh
