Has Anyone Who Has Had Surgery Had To Drink 12oz Of White Grape Juice 1 Hr. Before Surgery???

The Mayo Clinic told me to drink the 12oz of grape juice or apple juice 1 hr before surgery. I was shocked bc I thought you were suppose to not have food or drink after midnight. I'm curious if anyone else had to do that. I'm afraid I will throw up & have to go to the bathroom.

Members shared mixed experiences and concerns about being asked to drink grape or apple juice one hour before surgery, with many surprised since the traditional rule was nothing after midnight. Several members explained that medical guidelines have evolved in recent years to allow clear fluids closer to surgery to prevent dehydration, low blood sugar, and blood pressure drops that can cause post-anesthesia nausea, though the instruction still felt counterintuitive to many who had previous surgeries. A recurring theme was pre-surgery anxiety and fear of the unknown, met with warm emotional support from community members who offered reassurance to trust the medical team, take things one step at a time, and lean on faith and community during overwhelming moments.

Hey sweetheart, take a deep breath. Putting yourself in a ball of nerves is not going to help you. I know surgery all to well as I land in ICU because of my allergies, low blood pressure and low blood sugar levels. I am here for you , if need me. We all have a battle, and supporting one another is what it's all about. Trust in God, he will carry you when you feel you can't. Hugs to you my friend.

You are allowed to drink clear fluids the changed that rule with in the last few years because of dehydration.

Hi
I am so sorry you can't get answers. I don't know for sure if I will either. Things are calming down a bit so I am trying to take 1 day at a time. Today I am going for the ultra sound on my hand & a bone density test. I just have terrible anxiety issues. have a good day & please keep in touch. Hugs tigreyes
