A few weeks ago, my sister-in-law used a line towards me that made me feel hurt and it upset my boyfriend as well. I had suggested we get together one Tuesday night as she mentioned to me that she looks forward to her Tuesday nights (she uses Tuesday nights to get out of the house) and she said "oh well that's *insert friends name* night off, moms night out" and then later after I said "Oh ok" wrote "but we could still do something one night" Come to find out, she used that as a cover-up for… read more

Members rallied around someone hurt by a sister-in-law's insensitive "moms night out" comment, which felt especially painful given her endometriosis and past miscarriage. Several members encouraged taking a deliberate step back from the relationship to protect emotional wellbeing, with recurring advice to set boundaries without engaging in confrontation, and to remember that stress worsens physical symptoms. A consistent theme was that infertility creates profound isolation, especially when family members lack awareness or empathy, and that choosing to distance oneself from people who minimize your pain is an act of self-care, not weakness.

I would just ignore her and limit your time with her. Can't be dealing with negative people. Got rid of all of them from my life. No looking back. 😊
Obviously your brother will understand. So maybe its best to just take a step back from her for a lil while x πŸŽ—οΈπŸ’›

Even if it had been true that it was a moms' night out, that was a rude thing to say. She could have simply said she had other plans that night or that she was unavailable. Of course she has the right to do what she wants with her time, but that was a really crappy thing to say to someone experiencing infertility and who has had a miscarriage. I had a group of friends who did a moms' night out once that seriously just meant I wasn't invited and I was so hurt. I don't think they meant for that to happen/weren't thinking because they really aren't that way, but it was hurtful nonetheless. I couldn't tell from your post what the real reason was so maybe I'm off-base, but them going to your boyfriend about it seems a little over the top. Unless she was out committing a murder or singing the national anthem on TV (something you'd clearly find out about), why say anything? I'm sorry that happened and you're completely justified in taking a step back and protecting your energy. πŸ’›πŸ’›

No I wouldn't say you are taking it too hard. The problem for women dealing with endometriosis and infertility is it can be isolating. For example, I go to a great church with great people but most of the women are mother if not grandmas already at this point. We like each other and care about each other but it's difficult because I can't partake when they are talking about their children and they don't understand the grief and anxiety infertility has caused in my life.

That being said when she has made comments before about how she sees things, are they supportive or kind comments? Do they invalidate your feelings? She has the right to make comments and you have the right not to agree with her perogative. People often say things to those suffering with infertility that are hurtful and inconsiderate. You have the right to let her know if something is hurtful and you have the right to explain what is wrong with what she is saying. Like if she tells you to "just adopt" explain the costs and legal risks of adopting. Ask her if instead of hurting you with her comments she would like to pitch in and help you with an adoption fundraiser to help you "just adopt". And if she says no I would ask her to respect your feelings by not throwing out that idea because it is not as easy or simple as people think.

As far as the decision she made I think it depends why you are expecting as far as what would happen if you confronted her with the truth. She does have a right to go out without you and if she only wants to hang out with "mom" friends there is nothing you are going to be able to do convince her to hang. I am thinking of trying to create an online endometriosis and infertility support group and then create local chapters for childless women to meet other childless women. In my own situation, I find it painful to hang out with women who have young children or are pregnant. It only magnifies my loss of ability to have a reproductive system that functions propery. If you are prepared for the fact that she might tell you that she dosen't want to hang out with you because you don't have kids, then I would ask her in the nicest possible way, "Did I do something to offend you, because I heard that you went out with so and so and you didn't want me to join? The hard thing will be accepting whatever answer she gives you. If she dosen't want to hang with you because you are not a mom and wants to hang with other mothers then I would ask if there is something that you like that she might be interested in as well. If she says no she dosen't share common interests you have to find another source of support.

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member I don't see any problem with you taking a step back. After all, stress is bad for your body. I think it's possible that she has an issue where she somehow feels inferior to you on some level and thus uses something she knows to be hurtful as a weapon to put herself "above you" so to speak. The thing that you need to take from this is that you don't have to engage on her level. You have already risen above it. (I have a quick tongue and would've probably fired back about not wanting to hang out with a bunch of soccer moms anyway :) ) But you didn't. So don't start now.

If she says something or if your brother does it's okay to be honest. To be blunt and to the point, "I found out that you didn't tell me the truth and though I don't understand your reasons, it hurt me and so I'm taking a step back for my own well being." It's simple and to the point. You shouldn't feel bad for removing the bad energy in your life. And maybe it'll blow over and maybe they'll ask and you'll be able to work through it and move past it.

No matter what direction this goes in though please understand, you're not less of a woman because conception is hard. If anything, I think it makes you more of a woman and to be honest a better person. I was very lucky and welcomed a child into my life 4 years ago. However, since being diagnosed I have decided I cannot withstand the heartache month in and month out any longer and won't try for any more. Because I don't have the strength of heart. If you do, that's absolutely beautiful, that is strength and love and hope and literally all good things in the world. And to me that makes you a stronger woman than I am, admittedly. But I'm okay with that. Because maybe my strength is in another area. What I'm trying to say is we are all perfectly imperfect and have our own paths, our own lights to follow. Just because yours isn't the same as someone else's doesn't mean it shines any less brightly.

Yeah. Just back away. Blame your illness etc... Let them moan and bitch. But you need a break.
I take time out from my family. They all understand. Or try to. But sometimes you just need to be with your partner. There's a reason you choose him 😊
Hope you are feeling a lil better now. Some people just don't understand their words x πŸŽ—οΈπŸ’›
