Pain During Transvaginal Ultrasound
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I recently was diagnosed with suspected endometriosis due to unbearable pain and digestive issues during my period and sharp stabbing pains especially during ovulation. I went today to get a routine pelvic exam and transvaginal ultrasound to see if there is anything else that could be causing this. The pap smear/pelvic exam went fine, but the ultrasound was terrible. The way my ovaries are positioned, she had to push the device quite hard at weird angles to see them. It felt like bad period pain… read more

Vaginal examinations always hurt and the pain lingers for days even weeks. It’s ridiculous. I have to constantly go to the bathroom after any vagina examination. Plus wearing jeans or underwear that draws on the pelvic area adds to the discomfort.

Yes! Whenever i have to get an ultrasound it makes me cry. They have to apply to much pressure because my ovary is in such a weird spot and angle. The doctor said she was sorry, she had to get the photo though. I felt cramping the rest of the day. Like it pissed off my endo

My ovary is not where it's supposed to be, so she always has to use extra pressure. The pain makes me want to scream and throw up. It lasts up to days afterwards and the dr said that's normal for my medical situation. I feel you girl.

Yes I do - all my problems are on the left hand side and that's the side where I get the pain when they're scanning. Don't forget, endo can make the structures move abnormally and bits can get stuck to each other - like my left ovary was stuck to my pouch of douglas - this might explain why she found it so difficult to get a good view.
