My 17 year old daughter is having a lap mid Oct for suspected endo/heavy bleeding/pelvic pain. Her hemoglobin is low during her period. We know this because we donate blood regularly and she has been differed three times for this.

So the doctor said he can prescribe Lysteda after her surgery (at post-op appointment) if she’d like. Has anyone taken that before?

Members responding to a question about Lysteda for heavy periods and anemia in a teenager emphasized the importance of closely monitoring hemoglobin and iron levels post-surgery, with one member sharing that dangerously low levels caused an extremely high heart rate after their own procedure. Several members offered practical advice, including Slow FE 25 iron supplements that don't cause constipation, starting iron supplementation after surgical healing to avoid complications, and timing blood donations around menstrual cycles when levels naturally rebound. A recurring theme was shared understanding of the exhausting physical toll of anemia and heavy bleeding, with members expressing hope for relief through surgery and medication while validating the emotional journey of both the parent and daughter.

Solgar Vitamins have an iron called Slow FE 25. It doesn't constipate. I take it and have no issues.

Awww you’re so sweet. She is a good kid. She and I are watching Brooklyn right now. It’s so sad and happy. I love it. As teens get older, they get to be more like friends almost.. little friends but friends. :)

No worries. It’s part of hospital protocol. It’s the same hospital I just had my surgery at. :)

Make sure they check her CBC and iron after surgery. My heart rate post op was extremely high because my CBC and iron levels drop dangerously low. I had a laparotomy so hopefully hers won’t dip too low. Hope her surgery goes well!! Sorry to hear she is in so much pain!
