How long were you on meds before your doctor decided to do a laparoscopy? My gyn wants to put me on orlissa or bc for 6months to a year before doing a laparoscopy? Do you find that to be typical?
I find it to be typical but I don't think it's right. Personally, I fall on the side of being sure of what you're dealing with and removing it at the root, not assuming and treating symptoms. To me, that's the equivalent of giving you morphine instead of doing an x-ray to find out if your leg is broken.
Orilissa is actually only supposed to be given after endo is confirmed. It's a very new drug, has only been on the market for less than 2 years. It has lots of serious side effects.
Every decision is yours. These are just my opinions.
I agree with Meghan. For me, I decided to have excision surgery followed by pelvic floor physical therapy. Any medicine that messes with our hormones is to mask symptoms. Endo still grows and does its own thing. I have a bunch of resources on Endo and excision. If you want them let me know.

My doctor had me try orilissa for almost 2 months but it wasnt helping and I've had an IUD since 2016. I just had my laproscopic exploratory surgery yesterday because my gyn sent me to a urologist to check for IC and she decided that she wanted to do her procedure as well so they both did their procedures at the same time while I was out. I think it helped that I had another doctor say they wanted to put me under but before I had gone 7-8 months and 5 different docs with no relief, no answers and excruciating pain. I hope they take care of yours soon!
Oh, and FYI, another thing that's confusing . . . a laparoscopy is just a general term for surgery where they use tiny incisions and a camera. You have your gallbladder out via laparoscopy too. So a doc telling you they are going to do a laparoscopy (or 'lap', as we say sometimes) doesn't tell you whether they will do excision or ablation (where they burn endo implants and leave them) surgery.
My daughter was at gynae today in Mullingar Ireland. We were told to take oral contraceptive 3 months witout a break...break then back 3 months without a break. This is until she has an ultrasound scan. Ive been told she will be waiting 14 months for lap.
