If You’ve Had Endometriosis For Over 4 Years, Is Your Infertility Rate Higher?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was first diagnosed at age 13 or 14. I’m going on 21 now and I’m concerned about this. I want to have kids but I don’t know if I should plan sooner rather than later. Thanks in advance!

You're welcome and I hope that info helps. Also, I'm a big fan of people having control over their bodies, so if you want to have a baby now, go for it. But the excision surgeons I know and/or have consulted all say they don't want someone to feel they have to have a baby when they aren't ready because of endo. Basically, the best way to maximize fertility and odds of a healthy pregnancy is excision surgery to remove the disease. The surgeon can then advise when they think you should get pregnant based on the extent of your disease, how your organs looks and some blood work for fertility markers. Good luck and 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 for you! And keep ups posted, please, if you're cool with that.

So, the length of time that you have endo does not necessarily tell much about your fertility. About 60% of people with infertility turn out to have endo. But having endo does not necessarily mean you will have infertility problems. Excision surgery is the gold standard of endo treatment and reduces pain while increasing fertility for the majority of folks who have it.

I’ll leave a resource list here of stuff about endo I've found helpful over the years. Other users have said it helped too. Let me know if I can do anything.

This is a good article by an excision surgeon in Atlanta on infertility.

Ladies my stuff startes at 13 as well. I am now 30 and have to miracle babies. You need to talk to your doctors and see what they say. My advice to you is if you truly want kids and you believe that sooner is better for you then plan accordingly. I had a gut feeling that if i did not have kids by 25 i wouldn't have any. Come to find out i was right. At 23 my doctor had to do emergency surgery to take my female stuff out. It was bad. All i have left is one ovary. You have to do what is best for you. Hugs and loves and support from me

Katherine is correct. I believe the only reason i had both of mine is because of the 2 surgeries that happen before i got pregnant and a little luck. Do what is best for you love.
