Endometriosis After A Hysterectomy
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Do you still have issues with endometriosis after having a hysterectomy? If so, what are the issues? Or, how did the hysterectomy help.

I had it in 2016. It left me in more pain than I was pre surgery. I can’t regret it, because it will only cause more pain to my soul, but if I knew what I know now, I’d avoid it at all costs. In my opinion, it’s not a solution.

I haven't had a hysterectomy but I do know that the only thing it does is prevent you from having a period & therefore prevent the very severe pain on periods.

But Endo grows on the abdominal wall & can grow on any organs in the Pelvic & abdominal cavity so if you don't have it all removed by a highly skilled Endometriosis excision specialist, then it will still be there after a hysterectomy & can continue to grow & cause pain, fatigue & other symptoms.

Excision is the gold standard for treatment, not hysterectomy, unless you've already had excision of Endo with a vetted expert surgeon & are still in a lot of pain from also having either diffuse Adenomyosis (& if can't afford to have surgery at the 1 clinic in the US that operates on diffuse Adeno) or have such extensive fibroids that even an excision specialist can't remove all of them.

After my total hysterectomy I don't have anymore pain. I'm just going through menopause. I go to my check ups and stay close to my doctor.
