What Else Should I Bring For Surgery?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Here's a list of items for my surgery next week, & recovery. Am I missing anything? I'm having a thorough excision of endo + myomectomy of fibroids. There's a chance that I may need to stay in the hospital for 1-2 nights, depending on blood loss level from myomectomy (hopefully not!). Here's a list of everything I have so far:

1. Warm, loose fitting, comfy clothes, lounge pants with elastic waists 🧣

2. Slip on, orthopedic slippers

3. Leak proof period panties, since I'm having surgery inside… read more

If you can find some I would recommend a pack or container of disinfecting hand wipes. They can work for your hands and I would definitely do an extra wipe down of the bed controls, tv control, bed rails, and any other surfaces you might have to use like chairs, arm rails, and grab bar in the toilet gradually as you become more mobile. They will say they are doing extra cleaning for covid but they only have so little time and resources so its always good to be prepared for anything. Otherwise you sound fully prepped and ready to knock it out of the park!!

They should provide you with some type of compression socks for surgery, for mine they put on these big wraps that sent electronic pulses up my legs that felt kind of like a massage. They also provided an abdominal binder, which I woke up with on & didn't take off for 3 days. It helped a lot! Make sure they'll provide one. Also I only stayed overnight but brought most of the stuff listed, but most of it I didn't even use until after I got out and back in my hotel. I didn't feel up for changing out of my hospital gown. I would add something to cool your throat, like lozenges or gum because you wake up really dry. Heating pad for your shoulder gas pain.

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member yep that's what i had on my legs. They felt nice but did leave big bruises on my legs though! The hospital gave me a nausea patch and I didn't have any nausea at all, so that's something else to ask about. Gosh your flight is tomorrow! You sound well prepared, I hope you get lots of rest and have a smooth flight! ❤

I had a laparoscopic turned laparotomy. I was supposed to have outpatient and ended up staying in the hospital for 3 days. I was in my hospital gown the entire stay and had compression cushions around my legs that would fill up with air to keep blood circulating. Hopefully, your hospital will provide something during and after surgery. But I think compression socks would be good to wear on the plane or if your up walking around.

Also, I wore dresses for a few weeks because I couldn’t handle anything around my waste, no even loose sweats. My hospital didn’t provide a binder and wish I had taken a pillow for the ride home. Maybe the condo you are staying at has one you can borrow.

I saw others mentioned mesh diapers! Those definitely came in handy as I had a lot of endo on and near my uterus. since they will be working on your uterus, they will come in handy.

Hope you can find food that you can eat. I could leave until I passed gas and ate something. I had a low sodium chicken broth for day 2 and plain baked potato on day 3. I didn’t have an appetite.

Gosh, I’m hoping everything goes smoothly with your surgery! I hope you feel immediate relief from pain and you heal quickly! Sending you all the positive vibes a speedy recovery!

A pillow that can wrap around your stomach! Literally a life saver! Also a fan if they allow! I made them get me one I was dying of heat!
