Recovery Essentials?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have my first excision surgery one week from today! I was wondering what your essential recovery items were? I ordered a pregnancy pillow to help with sleeping and some loose nightgowns to wear the first few days. Anything else that really helped you feel better? Any particular snacks that helped? Thank you!

Hi! Who are you having excision with? I had my excision with Dr Kongoasa last September. You probably won't be wanting to sleep on your side ( I didn't for a couple months) what helped was stacking 2 pillows under my knees to keep my back flat and pressure off my abdomen. Make sure the hospital is giving you a abdomen binder, that helped me so much I didn't take it off for the first 3 days. Comfy loose clothes, like soft pajama pants. Leggings will be uncomfortable for a while. Soft easily digestible foods for a while, the biggest thing is digestion and avoiding constipation and gas so gasx, maybe colace, heating pad for shoulders. Also someone to help around the house for a while. Good luck!!

High fiber foods. The anesthesia and pain meds can make you constipated and your first bowel movement might be painfull. Bearing down with an incission is not recomended and painfull. Learned that the hardway. Oh, and lots of electrolites. Sometimes plain water might make you nausious.

Hmm.. Gas X was my best friend for the gas pains for the first 24 hours. After that, Miralax for being all constipated from pain meds.

Otherwise, I would say it helped me to set up a cozy little nest for when I got home with lots of good shows, foods and things you love to look at around you.

Good luck! xo

Thank you! I didn’t even think of stocking up on drinks with electrolytes. That’s a great tip.
