Has Anyone Used Aspen-Diegnogest/Visanne To Help With Heavy Flow Or Micronor/Movisse And What Side Effects Did You Experience?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been prescribed both in the past and haven't used either as I was concerned about the side effects, especially with Aspen-Diegnogest/Visanne but my flow is out of control and I have endo in many places included bladder and rectum so that makes it worse. I have only used Naproxen for years for the pain but I have been beyond "managing" for a long time now, especially with the flow and I have also learned/realized that this treatment plan does not actually "treat" endo which… read more

i have been taking Visanne for 7 months, then stopped to switch to Qlaira but quit Qlaira because of side effected I couldn’t take.
IUD Mirena March 2021 t March 2022 - thinking about this makes me emotional because it was a terrible year of my life. I was bleeding and in painful almost all the time during that time, sometimes I couldn’t walk because of the pain, some coming form mirena itself. Maybe it was not inserted properly but the experience was worse for me, I’d bleed just like that out of nowhere. I’d have pain episodes in the middle of the road while driving. No, Mirena messed me up, I even ended up in therapy again after that. But i’m okay again now.
Visanne April to mid-November 2022 - I dealt with the side effects on the first month only. Two weeks were filled with moods, hair loss, back pain, trouble sleeping (it was so obvious because i naturally have no struggle sleeping at all) nausea and puking, cravings but did not gain weight because I’d eat and vomit. My periods lasted about 5 days, there were cramps but then okay, i even had to go bald in April because of the hair loss. i went to my GP for additional medication to deal with the side effects. After a month, my body adjusted and i was ok. My skin was even fine and glowing but I’d have endometriosis episodes (terrible pains, fatigue and nausea with migraine) once in a while and i still don’t know the triggers because my periods stopped completely. I stopped taking them in September then resumed mid October to mid November.

Qlaira mid-November 2022 to early Jan 2023 - my OB-GYN asked me to try Qlaira, he gave me 6 months prescription with an option to change meds if Qlaira doesn’t work. This is because unlike Visanne, Qlaira is also a contraceptive so he wanted me to try the combined option. But it made me so much hungry and my face had so much acne, something I didn’t have because Visanne made my skin so fine. I had my periods in in October because i stopped Visanne end of September as Dr instructed, so in November and December my periods still came while i was on Qlaira. They were painful and very high flow.
Trust me, I’m back to Visanne now because I gained so much weight because of Qlaira. I used full one box, i was on the second one when i decided to stop. I just couldn’t take it anymore. Since yesterday, I’m back to visanne but I stopped taking Qlaira last sunday while I was waiting for a new prescription.

😂😂😂😂😂😂 Oh God, sorry. I always Google my Meds before taking them. So I did the same with Visanne and learnt that it is advisable to take it everyday same time.

Anyway, my first two weeks were horrible. Nausea and vomiting stopped me from eating for 2 weeks, I lost my hair by end of first month and had to cut all of it. I had backpains and swollen breasts like I was pregnant, my breasts even had white milk with milky taste 😂😂😂😂😂lot of it enough to wet my shirts and pillows, day and night.

But I'm in 6th month now and my doctor told me to stop at the end. And spend a monyb without Visanne and see him at the end of tye month, which is end of October 2022. I feel so much better ever since I started Visanne safe for the horrific side effects in the first month.

I took Visanne for about 3 months. I’m opting to go back to Lupron Depot as I found it more effective for me. For Visanne I noticed that my hair shedded a lot more, and I was moodier. My already low libido was much lower too. Stopping Visanne I noticed I was sleeping better which means that Visanne was impacting my sleep but not that much. Lupron Depot had ALL of these side effects too, but I had significantly more pain relief from Lupron. So in my opinion if your pain isn’t tolerable it’s worth a shot. I do not have a period as I also have the Mirena IUD which stopped mine.

I took mirena a year ago which helped me a lot with the flow and length of my periods (it used to be high flow of 7 days long periods). However, it had been painful for me everyday nonstop since it was inserted. It was pai3and uncomfortable as the pain would not be triggered by anything, it just comes, day and night.

Since 1st April 2022, I started using Visenna and its been two days now. My periods came back a day after I removed mirena (30/03/2022) and I skipped a day then started with visenna. So far, my "old normal" menstruation is back - flow and my blood now smells very bad. Visenna brought me increased appetite and cravings. Cravings get worse at night. Mirena was horrific for me and I'm hopeful again with Visenna. I know God is with us, ladies. Let's keep pushing 💛
Fast forward March 2023 - still on Visanne and it’s lovely here. My periods lasted just 4 days from 1st to 4th April 2022, and I was done. They completely stopped but came back when I was switched to Qlaira. Between November and December, I was put on Qlaira to return my periods and see if they have changed after Visanne or not. BUT had to stop before finishing the second pack because of side effects. Pain. Excessive weight gain and acne😩😩😩. It was terrible with painful non stop bleeding and spotting. So I’m still on Visanne. I’m see my doctor in few weeks time I’ll know my fate then because recently I’ve been experiencing intermittent pain for over a month now.
