Birth Control…
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I have tried the combined pill and the mini pill for endometriosis management. Both did not help with my pain at all and I had HORRIBLE emotional side effects so I got off of it. Getting a laparoscopy soon, is it worth trying an IUD? I’m scared of the emotional side effects but my doctor has said they are less severe with IUD vs oral contraceptives.

The IUD hormones act locally instead of systemically so typically it shouldn’t have the same emotional effect. I personally did not like the Mirena because I found that I was in more pain due to the device itself. I don’t think that my experience is the typical one, though, I think that most of the time people really like the Mirena. If you do get it, ask them about taking ibuprofen before your insertion appt. Hugs!
