Has Anyone Had The Mirena Coil To Help With Endo Pain?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

If you have, do you find it actually helps the pain atall? I’ve had my coil in for around 3 years & if anything the pain seems 10x worse now than before hand. I’ve also been suffering with chronic UTI’s & bladder problems for the past year & I am under urology for this as they would like to see if it’s being cause by the endometriosis.

I have had my Mirena coil for 3 years, I feel it's only helped to control the bleeding but as for pain, mine is still there & it's awful when I do bleed.
The issues I have found are constant vaginal itchiness, it's not thrush and bleeding everytime I have sex. I literally have to put a towel down because and I know this maybe TMI, but the brown sludge is there everytime.

Thankyou so so much for sharing this!! Everything you’ve said there is exactly what I’m dealing with, even down the the brown sludge!! When I feel like I should of been having a period that’s when I tend to get the brown sludge & this week I’ve had absolutely chronic pain & then went to the toilet and there was so much brown stuff! Feel free to message me if you ever need a chat as everything you’ve experienced is exactly what I’m dealing with and it’s horrible!x

Hi Emma,
Sorry for my late response, I'm in the same place as you in terms of wondering whether to have my coil replaced next year, the only plus is the control it has with the bleeding because without it, my gosh it was like I was being sacrificed, the pain will no doubt intensify to the point where it makes me want to pass out.
I also think Kyla above hits the nail on head with the phantom periods, feels like my whole abdomen and back are in constant stabbing, burning aching pains.
In response to your question in hoping I am keeping well, I don't know 🤷🏼‍♀️ some days are better than others; but just in terms of how I deal with it. I suffer with pain everyday, and I think that all of us are probably the strongest women as we just get on but other days I just want to cry and hug my heat pad. Going to the toilet no 2 is getting more and more painful. It just sucks. I hope you are keeping well, please feel free to reach out; my friends get it but they don't. X

Thankyou so much for sharing this with me🥺 I hope you’re okay!! I’m due to have my mirena coil removed next year however I’m unsure whether to have another one as the pain I’ve had since having it, is absolutely chronic! I haven’t had a period in around 8 years, I had one like normal as I used to bleed for weeks then the next month I thought my period was just late but it never came & still all these years after I haven’t had one. I got diagnosed with endo at the end of 2019 so I wondered if it was because of this why my periods never came back but every month without fail when I’m due to “have a period” I get the brown sludge for 3/6 days especially after sex. This year has by far been the worst for all my symptoms & dealing with it but it makes me grateful that there’s other people I can talk to about it. Again Thankyou so much for sharing your story & feel free to reach out if you ever need somebody to chat with!x

I have had the Mirena coil for nearly 13 years now. I got the first one as a method of birth control, no clue I had endo. It worked well for about 6 years....no periods at all and I didn't have a lot of pain. I did have "phantom periods" where I would get period symptoms like cramps, bloating, horrible moods....but no bleeding. Then the last year of it I started to get what I thought were UTIs, and extremely painful ones, every month or so around the time I felt the phantom periods. Still no endo diagnosis at that time. I ended up having it replaced, and then started to get a period with bleeding more and more frequently. I finally had an ultrasound to check on my bladder and that was when I was diagnosed with adenomyosis/endometriosis. Over the past 5 years since the replacement Mirena my pain has increased significantly and I have regular, heavy periods that became more and more painful. I had the Mirena replaced yet again 2 months ago because my gyno thought it was the culprit. Since replacing it I have only had about 6 days total that were pain-free/bleeding free. And I totally get the brown sludge when having sex. Every time now.

The bladder issues are not as bad for some reason, I still have flare-ups of that but not as frequent as they were a few years ago. Every other symptom is worse however!
