How Long Till I Can Move After A Hysterectomy?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was wondering when I will be able to get up? I have a old dog who needs to get out early and a couple of times

Please also ask your doctor for specifics regarding your situation. After hysterectomy I had an 8-week restricted movement recovery period, and was not allowed to do certain movements, like bending down, twisting, lifting, jumping, running, etc. Picking up after a dog, lifting a heavy cooking pan, loading/ unloading a dishwasher, even driving would have been off the list, because they can involve twisting or bending down and possibly straining or tearing. Post-hysterectomy is a time when loved ones, friends and neighbors, will be needed to pitch in with household tasks. It's a time to rest and focus on healing.

It helps to have certain tools on hand: a cane, a shower chair or non-slip tub pads, pillows to prop yourself up when sleeping (it was hard for me to even sit up after laying down, for the first couple of weeks or so), loose clothing, a cozy robe, herbal tea to help with gas pains.

Eventually I was able to walk about 2 miles/ day, and moving helps prevent blood clots and gas pains, but in the very beginning you'll need to take it slow. Hope this helps. :)

All depends on yourself and recovery period

I was up and walking the next day, and made it a point to walk every day as much as possible. In the first week or two, though, because it was winter and snow/ ice outside, I needed to plan out my route to make sure I didn't trip or fall, and had a cane or my husband to hold onto for support. I suggest asking if someone can help walk your dog at least during the first week so you don't risk falling, until you get a sense of how you are feeling and if you are stable on your feet. Using a cane with supportive "feet" or a walker can also help.
