Hello, I had Endo for over 20 painful years. I had a total hysterectomy aged 40. Both ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix and uterus. My gynaecologist recommended this as so many patients who kept 1 or 2 ovaries returned for more surgery again and again due to the continued production of oestrogen from the ovaries - which causes the Endo to grow. I don’t know if I have simply been lucky or whether this worked but at the age of 63, I have continued to move forward with no pain ever since. This is a miracle as I was on Morphine and a cancer drug (Zoladex - which stopped my periods and stopped the pain) to control my periods before the operation. Upon waking up from the operation I no longer experienced pain. My Dr said it was because I removed both ovaries! Drastic as it can lead to osteoporosis of the bones and I didn’t use HRT - in case the oestrogen in it made the Endo grow again. My uterus was in my back passage, my ovaries and fallopian tubes were stuck to my pelvic wall. I had adhesions in the pouch of Douglas. My bowels were stuck together with adhesions, plus many more adhesions everywhere. I was also infertile. I underwent five failed laperoscapies, operations on my bladder and bowels. All this stopped after my total hysterectomy. It may not work for everyone? But, I have been forever grateful for the advice to remove both ovaries.
