Have others been diagnosed with lupus alongside endometriosis?

Yes, research shows that people with endometriosis have a higher risk of developing lupus. These conditions frequently occur together, and it's not uncommon for someone to have both diagnoses.

A MyEndometriosisTeam member shared similar experiences navigating multiple diagnoses. The connection between endometriosis and lupus is still being studied, but there are some interesting overlaps:

- Both conditions are affected by estrogen levels
- They may share genetic factors (like the PTPN22 gene variation)
- Endometriosis shows some autoimmune characteristics, even though it's not classified as an autoimmune disease
- Both respond to antimalarial drugs like hydroxychloroquine

Getting diagnosed with either condition can be frustrating and time-consuming. If you have endometriosis and suspect lupus, it's important to advocate for yourself. Make sure your healthcare providers are aware that these conditions often occur together.

Keep documenting your symptoms and don't give up on getting answers. You deserve proper evaluation and care for all your symptoms.
