I'm moving soon to US. But I recently found out my medication Visanne is not available in US. I'm getting it here in Qatar and Philippines. Any idea why it is not available in the US? Visanne works well for me. Last time I stopped I was in so much pain and I bled so much cause I got polyp in my uterus too.

Is Visanne (Dienogest) available in the United States for endometriosis?

Unfortunately, Visanne (dienogest) is not currently FDA-approved or available in the United States, even though it is widely used in many other countries like Canada, Australia, and across Europe to treat endometriosis. This can be really frustrating, especially when you hear others talking about it!

There are, however, progestin-based alternatives available in the US that work similarly. These include:

- Norethindrone – a progestin-only pill (the "minipill")
- Medroxyprogesterone acetate injection – given every three months (Depo-Provera)
- Levonorgestrel-releasing IUD – a progestin-releasing device inserted into the uterus
- Etonogestrel implant – a small device implanted under the skin

These options work by suppressing the hormonal activity that fuels endometriosis growth and can help manage symptoms like pain and irregular bleeding.

Speaking with a gynecologist who specializes in endometriosis is the best step to find the most suitable progestin therapy available to you in the US. They can help weigh the benefits and potential side effects for your specific situation.
