My basic understanding is that not all laparoscopies are created equal. Most docs perform an ablation, which is essentially vaporizing the endo in place. An excision, however, is much more technical and only a handful of specialists actually perform this version of laparoscopy. They essentially go to the root and cut out the endo. Like a weed, if you just pull out the leaves its gonna grow back. But you have a better chance of prolonged relief if they get the root. You'll have to ask your doc or look at your OR report to see what kind you specifically received. So sorry to hear about your nerve damage - Yikes!

I did! I had surgery with an excision specialist Dr. Nezhat at Center for Special Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery in May and it was the best thing I've done. I travelled all the way from Nashville to San Jose, CA. I had surgery with a regular obgyn about 6 months before excision which obviously did nothing for my endo because with excision I was diagnosed with stage IV! I declined Lupron and went with excision and I would definitely do it again.

To me, it's not the PLACE....it's the surgeons themselves and to a certain degree more importantly the nurses. Is it worth going to a place insurance may or may not cover, if it means fewer surgeries in the long run? Dr. Bulun is one of the best in the world for Endo, but is located in Chicago. I don't know if it's worth traveling that far to you because that would probably be out of network. He didn't do my surgery but has been my pain management doctor for a year. Absolutely amazing. He works with you to AVOID undergoing surgery if there are alternatives that will work first. I like that part. He also understands that there's the right way of combining naturalistic/holistic pain management with pills that don't ruin the stomach, liver and kidney.

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member I was out of work for about 2 weeks and definitely sore after because he did a lot of work. I only stayed one night in the hospital though and was "walking" shortly after.
