I was on the Depo for five years after a very heavy period lasting a month and then several ovarian cysts popping. It helped wonders with period pain, and cysts. I had none. For five years, I didn't have a period or any pain or any cysts. But I gained 50 lbs and it made me emotionally crazy. So I got off of it. As soon as I did, the pain came back and my heavy periods. I believe the Depo suppresses the endo because it is such high hormone. This is such a crazy illness and there is not one cause or solution because everyone's body is so different!!!

It works different in people. The depo's hormones is what caused the endo to grow and spread and what actually caused me to have cysts. It causes the flopian tubes to create a thick mucus so eggs don't pass and sperm doesn't get to an egg. A lot of woman retain water and gain weight. It caused me not to want to eat but I always felt dehydrated, so I drank water like a fish. I'm still "fertile" but the depo caused enough damage for the fertilized egg not be be able to attach itself and just die off.

The Depo Provera was the first thing that actually worked well. The pills didn't touch the Endo or the cysts. The only down side? Depo Provera sucks out bone density and made me want to eat more so I gained a bit of weight. But it worked well enough that I stayed on it when my doctor wanted to put me on Lupron. I did not feel comfortable going on Lupron giving the stories I had read. I had some spotting on Depo Provera but nothing compared to the pants ruining version while on pills.

I was on the depo for 5 years. 2 before I conceived my son, 3 after. I completely stopped birth control over a year and a half ago. My ob thinks it caused more damage. I am now having a hard time with conception and I have cervical cysts. I definitely wouldn't recommend it, especially with being a endometriosis patient.
