I've always had a little pain/ discomfort during sex. I had my first laparoscopy & hysteroscopy on Jan 21. The dr said I can have sex after 2 weeks. Last night, my husband (of 4 years) and I tried to have sex and it was a mess. I was soooooo nervous and awkward. I felt like I was losing my virginity again, not the pain level, just how nervous I was. I did feel a lot of pressure in my abdomen and my vagina felt so tight . We took it super super super slow and he only went in like half way. I just… read more

Members rallied around someone struggling with fear and pain during sex after a recent laparoscopy, reassuring her that soreness takes time to heal and that nervousness is completely normal. Several members shared practical strategies that have worked for them, including using fertility-friendly lubricants like Conceive Plus, pain-relieving suppositories, mindfulness exercises, setting a calming mood with music and massage, and even pelvic floor physical therapy combined with vaginal Valium to treat involuntary muscle spasms. A recurring theme was the importance of patience, open communication with a supportive partner, and giving yourself grace as your body heals and adjusts after surgery.

I found trying some mindfulness exercises beforehand can really help, some tea, different things to try and ease your mind. It doesn't always work but it's a start!

I went to a physical therapist to be treated vaginismus. It's involuntary spasms of the vaginal/pelvic floor muscles. We weren't sure if it was related to endo or not (most likely it was) but she not only stretched the muscles, she taught me how to relax them and get them used to stretching. The doctor that referred me to PT also gave me "vaginal Valium" as well, which helped them to relax.
