What Was Taking Lupron Like For You?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Alright gals, I need your input! If you've taken lupron, either as a trial or the full treatment, would you mind taking the time to tell me about your experience? From what I've read, it causes more problems than it solves but I'd like the honest opinions of women who've used it. My gomo and I are trying to decide on whether or not to go forward with a one month trial of the shot. I would love and appreciate all answers. The good, the bad, and the ugly! This is my only treatment option right now… read more

I have been on Lupron for 3 months and I loved it! Hot flashes are nothing compared to pain with out It. However, every woman is diff.
I have to point out that I am not diagnosed as of yet. I have my Lap next month (on my B-day)! I had 0% pain, normal BM, and I was normal for 2.5 months.
I did not get "dry" down there and for the first time in my life I finally found out about a "true functioning orgasm" . (btw...I'm 36 yrs old)
Anyway, hands down, if Lupron didn't have long term side effects....shoot me up! Lol
+now my pain is coming back in waves with new pain in my diaphragm. Not happy, but...my OB now knows it's on related issues.
Cross your fingers for me on my Lap and I'll be staying in touch through your decision.

Hugs

It takes 2-3 months for the injections to actually kick in. You have to be patient with your body. Like I said, your symptoms will flare up the first few months before your homone levels are suppressed. Lupron will over stimulate your ovaries before it can suppress them. As far as a one month trial period, that will not be any indicator as to how you will feel once the injections actually start working. I have heard of people quitting after the first injection because of the side effects and pain. It is rough, but there is pain relief after a few months. Ask your doctor of an add back therapy to help with the side effects. I take norethindrone. It doesn't take away the hot flashes, weight gains, or night sweats, but it makes it easier on your body.

Yeah, I've read a lot of horror stories and very few positive ones. I already am exhausted all the time, my bones/joints hurt like hell, my weight is everywhere, and I already struggle to sleep. At least with those things, I already have 'em. Though I'm looking to make them go away. How many months was it before you felt relief of the pain?

I was on @Lupron for 4 years. It was a miracle drug when it came to taking away the pain, but the side effects are miserable. @Lupron medically induces your body into menopause. It takes a few months for your estrogen levels to suppress, so the first couple months the pain increases-beware. Once the levels are suppressed, my pain was virtually gone. The side effects are those of menopause. Extreme fatigue, mood swings, hot flashes, weight gain, joint pain, insomnia, etc. I continued a 4 year course of the drug with the add back therapy of @norethindrone.
Do your research on the drug. It is a hormonal chemotherapy treatment. Be aware of the side effects. You will hear horror stories of @Lupron and Depo, most of them are true. The side effects are terrible, but it was the only thing that took away my pain.
