Tilted Uterus
Hey everyone
I’m wondering if anyone else has been told they have a “tilted uterus” and if so, how has it affected you?
I’ve been having bad abdominal pain and cramping for six months, so I’ll be having another lap on the 16th.
I have Crohns and it’s been such a headache with the GI doctors assuming my pain, bloating etc is from Endo. I deep down feel that I have adhesions behind the uterus and possibly on the bowel.
Also, does anyone else get crazy water retention?

It sounds like you need to get a second opinion and find a gyno who will go back in to check for endo!
I have a tilted uterus, endo, and extreme water retention/bloating. It is not fun :-( I found out I had endo in 2014 by accident, my gyno retired, and my first visit with the new one said "Has anyone talked to you about endo...?". Long story short I found out after the lap that I have a tilted uterus. I didn't have any pain during sex after the surgery for almost 2 years, it was incredibly freeing! For me, my endo was ALL over my abdominal cavity. Which explained all my crazy pain symtoms that no one could ever tell me what was causing it. Once I was all cleaned out from the lap surgery, it changed my life! I went a year symptom free, but it started creeping back during year 2. And now in year 3 it is back in full swing :-( Anyways, my gyno doesn't/didn't seemed phased by the tilted uterus, and hasn't warned me about anything regarding it. I am 33 and trying to have my first baby. I go back in for another lap surgery next month, so I'll ask at my pre-surg appointment about the tilted uterus and get back to you. Regarding the bloating and water retention. I use docolex every day to keep my bowels moving and it helps, but when I gets to be too much I use over the counter exlax to give myself a good poop. Ive also started eating more spicey things like jalapenos to keep things moving from time to time. If I'm retaining too much water, I use an over the counter diuretic. I never use them together, and only use them once a month if I really need to. Exlax and diuretic have saved me a few times for weddings and fancy nights out.
I too have a tilted uterus and it's also retroverted. Which means backwards.... so it's really painful along with my stage 4 endo. I also retain water like crazy ever since I have been diagnosed. Mostly fingers and face. If anyone knows how to help water retention... let me know. I'm currently talking lasix. Doesn't help. As for pain, my pain management Dr. Prescribed me tramadol. Sometimes helps, sometimes doesn't.
I have a tilted uterus. It was discovered during my first lap 3 weeks ago. When did you have your last lap and what did they find during it? My gyno did my lap and said he did not see any endo but that I have a tilted uterus and that's what was causing all of my severe pain. I'm confident he missed the endo since he is not a specialist. But a tilted uterus is considered common and everything I have read and others I have talked to say a tilted uterus normally doesn't cause severe pain. It can cause pain during sex, but that's it. So I think my doctor just doesn't really know why I'm in so much pain so blamed it on my tilted uterus. But they generally aren't supposed to be painful. But if you do have adhesions causing it to be tilted, and also adhesions or endo on your bowel, that can definitely cause pain. I don't think I necessarily have water retention. But I do have severe bloating almost daily.
Hi; I can't really help with any information about tilted uterus or Crohns, but I can say that I do get terrible water retention, especially in my face. My feet swell often too, which never used to happen to me before I began having endo symptoms. As far as your GI doctors mixing up your symptoms, I can understand your frustration a bit; just keep standing up for yourself. That is the best advice I can give. If you think your symptoms are related to one health issue and not the other, tell your doctors and be insistent and persistent.
For pain I take Aleve, which is just over the counter, but works pretty well for mild pelvic pain. I had to ask my doctor for a prescription for the harder days. However, I have GI issues too (interstitial cystitis and gastritis) and Aleve sometimes irritates if you have excess acid. Your doctor might be able to prescribe something that suits your unique health needs. I hope everything goes well on the 16th.
Thank you guys for all of your input and support! I had my first lap in 2012 and they found old stage 3 Endometriosis.
My gastroenterologist keeps saying that after every colonoscopy, they find a lot of “fluid” in my abdomen, but no one knows where that comes from. So that’s irritating.
I also have pain when I have a bowel movement.
I had a total colectomy in 2015 from Crohns.
My whole insides just need to be new lol.
