How Different Is Lupron Than Birth Control?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

My body does not handle birth control bad side effects. The obgyn i saw today gave me a pamphlete on lupron telling its not at all like birth control and will shut down my ovaries. And there is nothing else they can do other than that, or get pregnant and they can not do partial hystorectomy because i got ovarian cysts before having endo and that i would keep getting ovarian cysts even if they only removed the uterus. Which wad tilted onto the ovary that the cyst ruptured was on and could do no… read more

Excision is usually the best bet so it removes the areas of endo but it can grow back a hysterectomy does nothing to remove the actual endo I’ve done lots of research on it

Lurpon puts you into a "reversible" menopause but I beg all women to do a LOT of research before taking this. You will have to take adback with it to stop bone density and the side effects are completely terrible IF you get them. It's also used as chemo on patients that have colon cancer. I took it for a month (was supposed to be 6) and got terrible headaches, hot flashes, didn't sleep more than 5 minutes at a time and cried nonstop. It wasn't for me.

Is visanne an option for you? It’s technically not birth control, however is a hormone pill. A friend of mine, like you, does not tolerate birth control well at all and has tried everything imaginable. Her dr finally put her on visanne and she loves it! I personally was on visanne as well and it worked well, I would never try Lupron.

Yes, You will need to take add back to help reduce chances of bone density as Lupron is terrible for your bones and body. I also recommend when you start the shots, write in a diary every day and all the symptoms you are showing. Once it's in your body it will be there until it runs it's course. if you think you've had enough because of the symptoms you have/side effects, you do NOT have to finish it out.

I was signed up to take 1 shot each month for 6 months. I would ask about that, that way you have more control? I only did 1 month before backing out.
