A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed my sophomore year of college (20 yrs old) after having unexplained menstrual like cramps that would last for days even when I wasn't on my period. I have a very significant family history of endometriosis and have been on birth control for heavy and irregular periods since I was 15. My first gynecologist said that I was too young and since I didn't have any bowel troubles during my periods it was unlikely (I later realized I did, but I had believed it was normal). My second… read more

I've been very lucky that my birth control has seemed to be helping and I stopped developing cysts. My pain is very manageable most days and I can't imagine living with the sort of pain you're experiencing. I think that's where a lot of my issues come up because I know so many other women have it much worse than I do and I hate to complain when I have it better.

It sounds like you have endo for sure. Maybe you need a different professional who will take you seriously. Everyone experiences endo differently. For me, I can cramp, but my whole entire pelvis my ovaries tubes uterus feel like they are all on fire. It gets hard to sleep..laying down..standing doesnt even help during those times. Mine gives me a lot of inflammation and I feel like my ovaries or uterus are going to fall out during bowel movements. I get rectal shooting pains that can shoot from there to my uterus and its hard to sit. Even passing gas on my period can hurt. Intercourse is painful and I never engage in it. The aching on top of the fire cramps is what I get. I can throb over my lower abdomen. BUT feeling crampy even when im not bleeding is exactly what I experience too. I hate it and how it feels. It makes me feel like I am going to explode. I also get tired to the point I want to blow my head off from the exhaustion or the pain or both. My periods are heavy and clotty. I just got done bleeding for 12 days went through a whole bag of jumbo pads and now I am back on iron again. So trust me I get you.

I feel you have endo. I dont think any of my family members have endo but there is a lot of female cancer on the reproductive organs in my family. But dont be afraid to seek another doctor who will follow you on your journey of endo we all deserve answers and proper and thorough treatment.

I want to add that just because you didnt have bowel issues doesnt mean you never had endo. Sone people dont experience every single symptom of it. Sometimes my bowel movements are wonderful, and other times they are so out of whack. And they get so screwed up on my period, but again, it doesnt mean you dont have endo. I know women who had stage four endo but never had pain with intercourse. So dont let anyone telm you differently.

I'm on Jolessa right now, it's a 90 day pack so I only get my period every three months. If I'm really good about taking it on time I only have a day or two a week where I notice I don't feel well.

Never call your pain "complaining" we are strong women to deal with what we deal with every day.

I am glad you found relief in your birth control that is awesome!

Some women have really bad endo with little pain while others have a lot of pain and minor endo. Endo is so bizarre ugh.
