A Couple Questions About A Laparoscopy...
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Talked to a surgeon yesterday and he is gonna try and get me on the schedule. *crosses fingers that it is soon* How long do laps normally take? Is it just to look around and diagnose, or do they remove the built up tissue during it? How long are you in the hospital after? What is recovery like?

I’m 7 days post op on my first ovarian cyctecomy lap. I was told during recovery that it’s necessary for me to have a second lap to remove a cyst on my bowel that never showed up with transvag ultrasounds.

For me I was in surgery for about 1.5 hrs. I don’t have lesions but mostly cysts that form everywhere for some reason. So I have 4 incisions instead of the usual 3, one was exclusively used to pull the cysts out. I didn’t need any ablation/excision but we started the surgery with the intention to remove any extra tissue that was there as well. I’m sure your surgeon will do the same..definitely ask all them all the questions you have.

I was in recovery for almost 2 hrs as it always takes me a while to wake up. But as soon as I was awake they removed the oxygen, I ate some ice chips, had some crackers, took a Percocet with juice, got changed and I was ready to go. I was awake for just 30 mins before I left.

The Percocet made me very nauseous so for the first 1.5 days. Once I got an anti nausea medicine and the Percocet was out of my system I was up and moving and feeling better. My incisions were a bit sore but nothing I couldn’t handle with an ibuprofen schedule. For the first 3 days I was on a bland food diet..applesauce, toast, crackers etc

Like I said I’m 7 days post op and only took 200mg of ibuprofen twice yesterday. I’m not 100% back to myself yet but I am up walking and doing things and only feel a bit sore if I over do it.

I hope this helps! Best of luck!

I just had mine on Friday and I think it's safe to say it depends on the physician. My physician got in there and found the endo, then proceeded to remove 5 visible lesions. In my opinion I would think that this would be standard because who wants to put a patient through this twice but I would suggest talking to the doctor when they call to let you know when it is and asking him or her. PS I left the room at 5:00PM and was in recovery and awake by 6:30PM. Just enough time for my SO to go and get himself some ice cream :) Best of luck on your lap!
