Has Anyone Tried Lyrica?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am having nerve pain after having laproscopic surgery in November and my doctor wants me to try this out. Has anyone tried it and has it worked? Are there any bad side effects?

I've taken Lyrica for nearly 10 years now for moderate/severe fibromyalgia. Originally, I started out on 600 mg. Now nearly 10 years later, I'm able to function fairly well with just 100 mgs. Truly, it gave me my life back and more freedom. Nerve pain is just horrific, I truly understand.

I haven't really had any side-effects. I was concerned about the potential warning for swollen hands and feet, but this never happened. It does make me sleepy BUT I take my dose at night - problem solved! Otherwise, I can also get a tad dizzy. Expect a little morning grogginess/fog, but this should abate. Overall, I'm very happy with its results and definitely recommend Lyrica ESPECIALLY for nerve pain.

Also - try taking some over-the-counter Naproxen. It's an NSAID and I've found this helps my nerve pain and inflammation, moreso than ibuprofen or acetominophen. Naproxen is branded as Aleve. However, for a FRACTION of the cost, just buy generic Naproxen!

I took 75mg for about 6 months and absolutely loved it! Of course every one is different and some people experience lots of sleepiness with it but I was on a lower dosage than most people that take it for like back pain. I noticed such a huge difference in my pelvic floor muscles when taking it my gyno was shocked so if you’ve had some trouble with pain during sex it definitely helped me. I did put on some weight while on it, as is quite common but I was also on a lot of other medications so it may have been my combo that caused my weight gain. I would recommend it to any Endo sufferer but of course, it is a strong med and you do need to wean off it for a month or two so be aware of that if you’re having side effects and want to stop.

Also: if you're having nerve pain, there's just something about BioFreeze that works great on my arms. This topical used to be available by prescription only, but now it's available OTC for around $11 at any drug store, WalMart, Target, etc.

And Mattie mentioned Neurontin - I used to take this waaay back in the day when I first developed Fibro. I don't believe Lyrica was even yet on the market. This was a huge help, too.

That's great that the gabapentin is working & no side effects. Everyone is different .

All those pills mentions have a side effect of gaining weight & I know people that gained a lot of weight from the Lyrica & Gabapentin. Everyone is different you can always give it a try & stop it if you don't like it. If your real self conscious about weight, then I wouldn't take it. Again everybody is different & reacts differently.
