Soooo, my excision specialist appointment is on Sept 22nd and her advice post surgery was to stay on my low hormone birth control each day to avoid getting a period. Well, I have taken it.. and it's been 6 weeks post surgery and I've gotten my period twice despite this.
Birth control pills that have more hormones (I'm on tricyclin low) are havoc on my mood and body. I get bad mood swings, headaches, nausea and vertigo.. So, my question is: Has anyone has successfully stopped there period with… read more
I would recommend against Depo Provera. Some people return to their baseline fertility right away, and some can take up to a year. And there’s everything in between. So if you want to have kids within a year, I’d avoid that.
Which pill are you on? The gyno I used to work for had a lot of luck with Microgestin 1/20. It’s a low dose one and she didn’t have too many people get breakthrough bleeding.
Oh, you’re ON Tricyclen-Lo. I read that wrong and thought that was what she was thinking of changing you to. OK, I was a terrible basket case emotionally on that pill. And I hated my bleeding pattern on it. That pill is a triphasic, which means the hormone level changes every week. It’s generally better to take a monophasic pill, where the pills all have the same hormone level. That tends to stabilize bleeding. Microgestin 1/20 is a monophasic one. This article explains it some more.

And you’re in Ontario, right? So the brand name won’t help you but I’m sure your gyno will be able to figure it out. I found this, which shows a bunch of similar names and the generic, so maybe that will make it easier too

If you get an IUD, get a Mirena or Skyla. Those are the ones with progestin that tend to make periods lighter. I had a Paragard and it worsened my periods. You can have irregular bleeding for a few months, but then you usually get no period. And whenever you want to get pregnant, the doc just removes it. I don’t know whether the cost and cramping of getting it inserted would be worth it for less than a year, but maybe it would be. My friend with endo is on her 3rd Mirena in a row and loves it. She’s done having kids, but doesn’t want a hyst for her adeno, so she’s waiting for menopause. Hope this link might help.

Hi. I have tried Low Lester and when that did not work, I did Depo Luprion. If I remember correctly, I think my IVF doctor preferred me being on Lo Lestrin vs Depo a Luprion closer to starting the IVF cycle. Please free to ask me whatever questions you may have , but I hope you won’t need IVF.
I’m on depo provera 10 week cycle, which is a method of bc. It’s all progestin and no estrogen. I’ve been doing really well on it for the most part. I do bleed between weeks 8-10 & 1 and have had instances of spotting. Last cycle I was in a lot of pain and bled for a month. In a few weeks I’m also going on mirena, which is an IUD.
