Pain When Aroused
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi, There is a problem that I have been facing years ago which is that whenever I feel sexually aroused from watching a romantic scene or even imagining one I feel sharp pain in my vagina as if it is squeezing /sharp ache , knowing that I am a virgin.this pain starts from the first seconds I feel aroused. My symptoms of endometriosis are intense pain after bowel movements, and sexual arousal/intercourse of any kind. I also get random endo bloating in my belly and I look 6 months pregnant. I used to have bad period cramps until I started birth control so it helps for that time of the month, but on my period, I wouldn’t get any cramps after sex or bowel movements (I know I’m cursed… if it’s not pain from one thing it’s from another). My pain is severe though. I’m talking about lying on the floor in the fetal position with my whole body cramping up and profusely sweating mixed in with crying and struggling to breathe. Sometimes lying there makes it worse and it helps to walk around but no matter what I do… the pain is so intense I can’t function. My pain only lasts from 20-30 minutes and then The relief comes randomly and the pain subsides. Aside from those symptoms I have noticed that drinking cows milk upsets my endometriosis worse. I have started only drinking almond milk and I also cut red meat from my diet. Im still trying to find my way to relief. I hope you can too. Even if it’s not endometriosis, go to gynecologist! They can help fix your issues!!

I can relate to you babe. Every time. I have sex about once a month because of this. I would recommend getting into the gynecologist and getting a laparoscopy. It might seem excessive but the surgery only lasted an hour and it helped tremendously. I still do have pain and a lot of it, but it’s a lot more manageable and not as bad as it used to me. A gynecologist can get you on a good track to finding some relief babe. Just realize this isn’t normal. I thought my whole life that I was going through what everyone else went through until one day I realized it wasn’t normal. Sex shouldn’t be painful. Sexual arousal shouldn’t be painful.

I hope you are able to get to the bottom of it soon! That’s no fun at all. You mentioned tight pelvic floor, that might be worth looking into along with talking to your doctor about all your symptoms, even stuff you might not think is related. They might be able to refer you to a PT before you look into surgeries and meds and all that. Doctors are quick to put you on birth control and meds without trying to get to the root of the problem IMO. I sometimes get a dull ache down there with arousal and many of my symptoms are due to tension in the pelvic floor. In the mean time I would recommend researching vaginismus and dysperunia too - Words I never heard of before I went to PT and they have a lot to do with vaginal pain during sex/arousal and pain at the entrance. I have used and currently use vaginal dilators to stretch the walls and for trigger release for painful spots. Idk if you’re comfortable using them in your case but it may help with the pain and prepare you for your first time with a partner. 😊

I’m experiencing the same thing now I’ve looked everywhere and nothing. Also a virgin btw… I even went as far as thinking that it was because I haven’t had sex. I’m still not sure that’s not the reason because it just started happening and I’m about to turn 24.

I experience this too! It's how I know I'm aroused; when I'm pain :(
