Thoughts On Nuvaring?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question đź’

my obgyn suggested it to me but i am wondering if that is the same hormone as the depoprovera shot?? and did it hurt? any penetration hurts me, even tampons. so i’m wondering if this would as well

I am late to respond but wanted to share my experience anyway. I have been using NuvaRing for about 4 years now and it has been the best birth control for managing my symptoms. Per recommendation from my gyno, I take it out after 30 days and immediately insert a new one to stop my periods altogether. In the past ~year I’ve had an increase in breakthough pelvic pains and increasing GI issues so I know it’s not fixing the problem, but no breakthrough bleeding and masking the issue is honestly less scary to me than surgery so I’m sticking with the NuvaRing for now. It contains a lower amount of hormone than oral BC, which I found helped with the mood changes I experienced with oral. It is initially uncomfortable to insert, but I got used to the process and once it’s inserted I have never felt it. They provide a tampon-like insertion device but I find its easier to just bend between your fingers, apply some lube, and insert. It’s about the size of a silver dollar but very thin and flexible. Hope this helps! Good luck to you!

Early on in my diagnosis, I found relief from the Nuvaring. I realize everyone is different, but it’s localized hormone “output” helped minimize my bleeding. Insertion didn’t bother me, as it’s flexible gel, but getting it high enough inside was uncomfortable. Once it was deep enough, it wasn’t even noticeable. It was worth the minimal monthly nuisance of insertion, in my experience. Side effects were nothing like Lupron or even oral birth control.
