I just had my first endo excision and a hysterectomy yesterday, and would appreciate any insights about what helps post-op. Thank you ladies!
Thank you for asking, I feel fantastic emotionally! I was sad initially that hysterectomy was necessary, and that it was a stage IV endometrioma. Had I had a good doctor to start, I may have been able to prevent the endo from reaching this stage. But I feel so much better since the surgery, most things feel much easier in my body now, even with the post-op pain. And I hope to be able to help others by sharing my story. Big hugs!
Keep it up it will all be worth it! How are you doing emotionally? Are you ok?
Thank you both so much for your helpful ideas! I will go slow... you are right, it's so tempting to want to do more.
So far I've been walking twice a day, eating soup, and working on my breathing. It feels like there's gas pain under my ribs, which makes it harder to breathe deeply, but it's improving. Blessings and heartfelt thanks!
I agree! And advance your diet SLOW. If not hungry, stick to clear liquids!!!!! Splint abdomen with a pillow when coughing. Be sure to take deep breaths, cough, use incentive spirometer, and walk. I had an ileus after my surgery and that was the worst part! Just go slow with advancing your diet. Make sure you are passing gas. Walking helps this!
Don’t overdo it, you’ll be tempted to start doing things but pace yourself to avoid setbacks. Also, a wedge pillow is really helpful to prop you up so your not working those abdominal and pelvic muscles whilst trying to sit up.
