How Do You Know When It's Time For Surgery?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had a laporscopy about 4 years ago and I felt better for about a year before things got really bad again I was on a waiting list for surgery last year until we found out I was pregnant with my baby girl. After having her I felt great for a few months and now the pain is coming back I'm noticing it more and more. It's not constant like it used to be so I'm wondering if it's worth looking into surgery now or if I should wait till it gets worse and do it then

I have kept the answer as general as possible since I obviously dont know all the facts of the case. Plus things will vary from country to country.
There are alot of things to consider when having surgery , however this time round you have a child to consider. So do you have a good network of friends and family to take care of your little one?
Why surgery?
Would it be worth considering non surgical options this time?
Surgery is a joint decision between you, your family and the medical team. It's important to consider all aspects before having surgery.
You also need to consider if the surgeon doesn't feel that there are any grounds to do more surgery.

I went back on the mini pill asap after my kids were born and then switched to the regular pill as soon as I was done breastfeeding to keep the endometriosis under control. Unless you are talking about oophorectomy as a likely permanent solution, I would suggest trying a course of Aygestin to break down the endometriosis plaques and then switching to the pill or another form of hormonal contraceptive to keep it from growing back, if you can handle hormonal methods and aren't planning to get pregnant again right away. In my experience, it will just come back after surgery within a year or so unless you take something to suppress it. Good luck!

Hello there, I'm Erin, first I wanna say congrats on your baby girl! Second, just wanted to ask what type of surgery? Are you contemplating another Laparoscopy to see if things have started up again? I took interest because my diagnosis/surgery was in December of 2017 and I'd been contemplating it too. You never know if it's something flaring up from scar tissue or it's creeping back to the worst of it. I know it's not super helpful but if you want to talk about it this is me just hoping to share common ground on it lol
