I have days where I am in heavy intense pain, cold, weak, and barely able to move. Right now I feel as if my ovaries are spiked balls that stab me when I move even a cm. I feel I may need to go to the ER but I don't have insurance and I need a heck of a lot heavier pain medicine besides Ibuprofen 800 mg. I feel like I am taking nothing when I take that and am in pain. I sometimes go into anxiety attacks from pain from worrying if it is worse to the point of needing an anxiety medicine. When… read more

If you have uncontrolled pain for more than 45 mins you should see a doctor. However your likely to only find relief from a certain type of surgeon. Join Nancy's Nook to learn more and see a qualified provider listing.

Thanks. I feel the same here and I try to avoid it as much as possible but sometimes I am out of options

I honestly avoid the ER because they aren't best equipped for chronic pain conditions. Last time I spent the night in the waiting room because abdominal pain isn't what they treat first at my ER.

I know a lot of us have avoided repeat ER visits because we are often labeled or seen as drug seekers, but just like so many other times with endo, it necessary to put yourself and your well being first and say "f*ck it" to everyone else's opinion.

PLEASE GO TO THE ER IF:
-pain is so bad you have difficulty breathing
-are unable to drive yourself
-pain/cramping is so intense it causes vomiting
-you simply can't get any sort of relief from any combination of pain meds and nonmedication pain relief (heating pad, warm bath, TENS unit, etc)
-you have suddenly very dark stool or stool with what look like coffee grinds in it. This can be a sign of internal bleeding. (PLEASE NOTE: my endo is all around my bowels and I've been using Pepto-Bismol regularly to curb the diarrhea. This medicine, in its name brand and generic forms, can cause darker stools, it's the sudden change with or without these medicines you red to keep an eye out for)

DON'T WORRY ABOUT NO INSURANCE!!!

At least in the US, no hospital can refuse care because you don't have insurance. In many cases they will have a financial counselor speak to you either at admission (worst time) or after your treatment (much better) about ways that you may qualify for varying payment options. FULL PAYMENT IS NEVER EXPECTED AT TIME OF SERVICE so while it may be a hefty bill at the end of the day, no one is going to hold you hostage.

Your health and safety (hence the don't drive yourself!) is the utmost important thing. Try to remain calm, but don't put on a brave face as we have all perfected for getting through daily life-the doctors will be (sad but true) more inclined to take your pain seriously if you are exhibiting real distress (which will be backed up by simple tests like taking your pulse and blood pressure.) Having someone else there can also help emotionally support you as well as making sure you're as comfortable as possible while waiting (those warmed extra blankets my mom made sure I had while I shivered from pain were like the hands of God when I had to go) and they'll be able to make any necessary phone calls for you (spouse, partner, boss, babysitter, etc.)

Once they have your pain under control, ask about local pain management clinics (firstly, you'll most likely need additional pain support in the future, and secondly it again reaffirms that you are seeking healthcare and not just drugs.)

I hope this helped some and I'm wishing with all my night that you get some relief soon!<3
