A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭
New York, NY

Hi All --- I had surgery about 2 months ago to remove endometriomas from both ovaries, and now I went back to the doctor and I have a 2.5 cm endometrioma in my right over and my left ovary is stuck to my uterus.. I am supposed to fly to South Carolina from NY this weekend and I'm worried that flying on the plane may cause a torsion or something to rupture.. and the doctors office is closed today because of the holiday. Any advice?

Everybody is different, but you should be okay. I get torsion pain just from walking/doing any day-to-day activities, so you should be fine just relaxing on the pain.

Of course every situation is different and I'm sure you'll contact your doctor once the office is open; but I can share my similar experience if it might help.

I had a 10 cm cyst that had already caused ovarian torsion and it's a long, painful story, but my ovary untwisted enough by the time I got to a doctor who actually knew what she was doing to where I didn't need surgery right away. That almost never happens, so I'm very lucky. At any rate, I had to fly from SC to Philadelphia for a conference and had the exact same concern with flying-- what if it torsed again or burst or something bad?? My doctor said it should be ok, but I was under strict torsion watch either way and she advised me to find out where the nearest hospital to my hotel was. I made it to Philly and back without incident, thankfully. I did find during that time that sitting was really uncomfortable given where my cyst was, so it might be a good idea to bring a little neck pillow or something you can use to shift your position in your seat a little if you get uncomfortable. My cyst was not an endometrioma; I don't know if that matters. Good luck on your trip! 💛
