I will have my first lap in a week. I’ve had bowel resection and c-section surgeries in the past. My gyn didn’t mention it, but I wonder if I should have done a bowel prep anyway since there’s a high likelihood of adhesion between my bowel and ovary and uterus - it happened in the past, my MFM removes them during my c-section three years ago, and I’m feeling sharp pains with urination and BM/straining these days. Any thoughts and suggestions from experienced endo sisters? Luv.
Pillow (for car rides since putting on a seatbelt will be painful), comfy underwear, comfy sweats, soft foods like apple sauce , mash patatoes, popsicles, (your throat might hurt after the surgery from the tube they have to put down your throat ) , something to keep you occupied at the hospital since youll be waiting a while, if you have piercings maybe a little ziploc to keep all your piercings in since all of them have to come off, and of course your pre-op pain medication. They also tell you to purchase "hibiclense" and Rinse your external body with it for two nights before the surgery to avoid infections and promote fast scar healing. Also had to purchase "Dulcolax" Laxative two nights before to prep bowels. Make sure you dont have to work these days because you will be in and out of the bathroom. The night before your surgery drink a half gatorade ( NO RED ) and then in the morning drink the rest of it . Cant eat 12 hours before the surgery. And i was asked to stay away from gassy foods after the surgery for a couple days . This is all thats on my Pre-Op instruction papers since im getting surgery again in december. Hope it helped somehow
Did the doctor not give you pre-op instructions? He shouldve. Well when i got my Laparascopy i was instructed to take Dulcolax Laxaties two nights before because supposely the gas after the surgery can be very painful and clearing out your bowel can help with the gas pains. Hope your surgery goes well and i wish you a fast recovery
I would just call.Better safe than sorry. They can mess up.I had the problem yesterday in message with nurse. She said just take new insulin.I read add it to meal time insulin. So I rewrote with old message attached to ask Dr.for clarity. Then she wrote back and said I was right to add to therapy.Had I not double checked I would have been messing up.
I did call today, but my doctor is off on Fridays (and yes he did agree to operate on me on his off day next week!). I will be out of town from Sunday to Thursday night, so I won’t be able to do any shopping besides tomorrow. Wish I can find a lap checklist somewhere......
