Laparoscopy Tips?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m having a diagnostic laparoscopy done on Friday. Just wondering if anyone can tell me their experience. Maybe share some pre op and post op tips? I am SUPER anxious about having the surgery that I have barely slept the last few days

It is nice to have someone there with you to get you things or help you out so you don't have to get up a lot. I was pretty sore for about a week and my boyfriend helped me out a lot and I was super thankful for that. Also I am naturally more comfortable sleeping on my side, so i slept with a pillow on my stomach at night to alleviate pressure of being on my side.

Following this post because I am having my first surgery on the 28th... want to see the answers you get too! And maybe you can share your experience after you get done? Good luck, girl! Sending prayers!

All the pre op bit and the waiting to have op is the worst. Remember to wear loose trousers. I walked out of hospital in my pjs and slippers as it hurt to change after op. Just remember lots of rest, walk about a little dont over do it, relax and enjoybsome good happy films to make the pain better. Good luck and hope it all goes well xx

It's not bad, really the pre-op process (bloodwork, fasting, hours in the hospital before your surgery, etc.) is worse than the recovery.

Post-op essentials for me were: heating pad, peppermint tea (to get rid of the CO2 they pump into your abdomen), a big bottle of Advil, ginger ale (the anesthesia made me violently ill), saltine crackers, and a good TV show to binge-watch! Mine was Bachelor in Paradise. Total trash TV but it took my mind off the discomfort.

Make sure you walk around the house a few times a day to keep the digestive system moving.

Make sure to have stool softeners. Take them I think my pain was so much worse because of constipation. Make sure to lay flat when you get home to get the bubbles out I got so anxious because we forgot and I was utterly uncomfortable. Pineapple contains Bromeline a natural anti inflammatory if you can tolerate a little it should help with the swelling.
