Can You Get Pregnant With Endometriosis?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone, I’ve been a bit stressed these couple of months. I was diagnosed with endometriosis when I was 18 yrs old had laparoscopic surgery and they ended up burning the lesions. Since day 1 doctors told me that there wasn’t a cure and that id have this for the rest of my life and the possibility to conceive would be difficult. At the time getting pregnant wasn’t even on my list of main priorities so I brushed it off and went on with my life, used birth control with progesterone up until I… read more

Endo does not necessarily mean you cannot conceive. Having said that, since your endo was burned, it is likely still in there. I have talked to countless women who got pregnant after proper excision surgery with an expert, which is considered the gold standard of endo treatment. I would echo Meghan and say if you do not conceive after six months, since we know you have endo, I would see a fertility doc at that time. There is also no harm in seeing your gyno for a preconception exam; they can check your thyroid, recommend a prenatal vitamin, etc and help you optimize chances.

Check out Nancy’s Nook on FB. They keep a list of surgeons who patients report helped their pain. I have had two excision surgeries, so feel free to read my story and recommendations tab for the surgeons I consulted. And lastly, I have a list of stuff that has helped me over the years. Let me know if I can do anything.

They say that if you're under 30 or 35 (I can't remember which) trying for a year is normal. If you're over that age, you need to try for 6 months before you're considered "having issues" so you're doing fine so far but I know each month is like major heartbreak. What are you doing to help conceive? Tracking periods? Ovulation strips?

I was told all those same things at 16. Shortly before I was 18, they started giving me a birth control shot as well as having me continue to take only the hormone pills from the birth control packs. Every month I'd go in, pee in a cup, test negative, receive another shot, continue taking the pills. Well, here it is end of March, yearly examination, doctor says "this doesn't feel right down here" checks my records...okay? Last 4 months all negative on the pregnancy tests. She has me go and pee in a cup, tests it, still negative. Pricks my finger, puts it on a test stip, Says I'm pregnant and most likely 12 wks. Wanted me to consent to an abortion right there on the spot, no ultrasounds, no nothing. I have a healthy 15 year old boy, along with an almost 14 year old daughter and almost 11 year old boy. All 3 of mine were conceived while taking birth control medication. My 2nd 2 were noticed much faster than 12 wks., as I went in as soon as I was late having my cycle. I carried all to term almost. My boys were 39 wks and my daughter was 37 1/2 wks. Also too, with my daughter...my placenta started separating. All 3 were induced. Stay positive and good luck!
