Birth Control
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Is birth control a good option for endo pain? I’ve had a partial hysterectomy already but still have endo in my posterior cul de sac and I need relief! I’ve put off birth control for years but now I feel like giving in!!

In my experience yes. I was on the pill in high school for years and it worked wonders. Then I was off of it because I started getting bad headaches. It wasn’t the pill, but sometimes that can be a side effect. I never noticed other side effects. Fast forward to recently, I have been on Slynd which is a progesterone only pill (large amounts of estrogen is a red flag with people who have had migraines). I did that pill because I needed pain relief & it was close to my wedding so I didn’t want to spot on my wedding day or honeymoon if I were to have gotten an IUD. I gained a few lbs on Slynd & my sex drive was like, zero. Fast forward again to today and I recently had my IUD insertion, the Kyleena. This is my gyn and I’s plan for symptom management. We will see how well it works. Hormones kick in within 7 days of insertion. I’m still in a lot of pain / cramping.
