Backstory: I went to the er and they found some pretty bad stuff on my left ovary. I was super close to emergency surgery. They called in the specialist and since I could still walk and my pain wasnt a 10/10 he didnt think i had torsion so didnt operate. He instead gave me norethindrone. Ive been off birth control for 7 years ish and I was finally learning my body. Im kind of devastated. This sounds silly.. but even though my periods can be terrible ive enjoyed having my periods and ovulation… read more
I just wanted to say that your feelings are completely valid. It is not silly at all to grieve losing something that made you feel connected to your body. I remember feeling like I was losing control over my own body and that my choices were being taken away from me. That is a really hard thing to process.
One thing I would encourage you to do is talk to your doctor about how you are feeling, both physically and emotionally. There are multiple hormonal options that can be used to help manage endometriosis, and everyone responds to them differently. If norethindrone is making you feel this awful, it is worth having that conversation.
I was on norethindrone as well, and the side effects were too much for me. My doctor at the time was unwilling to let me try anything else, so I ended up finding a new doctor. After that, I was on Depo-Provera for about 8 years and then switched to a Mirena IUD for another 7 years. Those are also used to help manage endometriosis. Personally, I had very few side effects with Mirena aside from the insertion and removal being painful, and it ended up being a much better fit for me.
That does not mean those options will be right for everyone, but it does mean you are not necessarily out of choices. If this medication is making you miserable, do not be afraid to advocate for yourself or even seek a second opinion if you feel your concerns are not being heard.
I am really sorry you are going through this. I know how overwhelming it can feel, especially when you are grieving your health, worrying about your future fertility, and trying to make difficult treatment decisions all at once. You are not alone.
What you're feeling is not silly at all — it's completely valid. Grieving your natural cycle and the sense of control over your own body is real, and so many others with endometriosis understand exactly that feeling. To answer your question directly — no, you are not being "super sensitive." Norethindrone is a synthetic Show Full Answer
A few tears ago, because of Perimenopause, I had to switch from a combo b/c pill to just Norethindrone only..After a few months, it caused me anger and depression issues. I did some research, asked my Doc about trying the " Slynd"pill instead, it was great, I had no side effects at all ! Only bad thing is its really expensive,( but my Doc appealed my Ins for me to get it.) I took it continuously for Endo Control & it also helped my PMDD and didnt mess up my Bipolar Meds) Slynd is a newer Progestin -Drospirenone, which, although synthetic, is closer to natural Progesterone. (I was hoping to find something like a true Natural Progesterone treatment for Endo etc. instead, But none of them appear to be regulated ) I hope this info helps you! 🙏
You are welcome 🤗 I am glad that I was able to help in some small way. I am here if you ever need an ear I have been through it all 🥹
That response just made my day. I actually teared up reading it. Thank you so much 💗 seriously, thank you. 💓💓💓💓💓
