I'd love to know if others go through a similar thing to me. Around 1-2 weeks before my period, my mood/personality completely shifts. It's not like a 'normal' mood swing, it feels super dark and scary, it's like I'm no longer me and i'm in a constant state of fear & depression.

As soon as my period comes, these feelings go away, but in the moment it truly feels like the world is ending.

My doctor mentioned pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder, has anybody else been diagnosed with this as well as… read more

Yes. I've never been officially diagnosed however I did some research on my own and knew that's what's going on with me. I was also on the Depo Provera injection and had to stop it on my own without a doctor's permission because it was causing me to have suicidal ideations. I was more of a wreck on depo than I was with getting my period and suffering from pmdd and stage 4 endo. Nothing truly helps. I get so pissed, angry, and dark for days while wondering what was going on and then it would dawn on me like duh, your period. Happens like that every month. It's more common than we think. Everyone wants to say oh, its pms and make light of it. It's so entrenched in our society without acknowledging pmdd is real and it's an disorder. It's so much more than ohhhh she's on her period, she's pms-ing, thats women for you, etc.... It’s a real life interrupting disorder that people should not just dumb down.

Oh, I totally forgot to agree with you on this part....
The minute menstruation starts, its like the world opened up.
All the feelings, heaviness, angry just all goes away. It flows right on out.
It's the best feeling. You really feel like a new person. It's literally like a switch has been flipped.
If i wasn't a sufferer of this, I would be so amazed at how the whole process plays out. Sorry, I have no tips/suggestions on how to deal with it. I totally forget that's what's happening to me every month so yeah, I'm in need of those same tips. Lol.

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member Thanks for your reply! I'm in the same boat as you, stage 4 and really struggling the week before I come on. Like you said, it's not a typical mood swing it's really really dark and heavy. My doctor suggested I had it, but then didn't really offer any support... I tried the Depo injection and weirdly it really helped me with my mood, but it then gave me lot's of other crappy side effects so I quit. I totally agree with you, most of the issues women face are played down and it isn't fair.
