Should I Go On Brith Control?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I want a second baby however due to circumstances it will probably be almost a year before we can start trying for another baby. My surgeon told me that if I decided not to start trying for a baby I should go on birth control so my endometriosis doesn't come back. Is it a good idea to start on birth control if we'll be trying within a year or would the birth control keep me from getting pregnant after I've stopped it. Also does birth control really prevent Endo from coming back? I'm just looking… read more

I started the Depo Provera shot April 2019 and stopped it Dec. 2019. The side effects, the worst being the suicidal ideations caused me to stop it without the go ahead from my doctor. Before stopping the shot, I had the same question as to when would my cycle would start back in the event I wanted to start trying for kids. That question at the time was just a hypothetical. I just wanted all the information so I could make wise decisions. I wasn't planning on or trying for kids. I was told and also read that it would take a year or so for my cycle to start back. It took less than that in reality... my cycle started back in May 2020.
By Dec. 2021, I was pregnant and that wasn't the plan. It was a happy surprise. I was still under the impression, I couldn't have children but everything I've been told and read was WRONG.
I say that to say this..Your cycle could start back as soon as mine did or it could not. There's no surefire way of telling. You could try red raspberry leaf tea to give your cycle a boost. Again, there's still no way to know for sure what you body will do. I pray it works out the way you want it to. 💖
As for birth control and Endo, I believe the birth control helps keep the Endo from growing and taking over other parts of the body.

I can't speak for getting pregnant or having kids bc it never Happened for me unfortunately. But I will tell u that being on birth control definitely did not prevent my endometriosis from coming back. Even after all my female organs were removed I was still on the pill and I still continue to have endometriosis grow. But it also depends on what stage u r at. Mine was deep infiltrating so one of the worst cases of endo. It grows inside and around all my organs, not just the female parts. So if u don't have a high stage of endo the pill may help prevent it from coming back quickly. My friend told me she would tell everyone not to go back on the pill if u wanted to get pregnant again in the next few years bc in a lot of cases it can take your body a long time to come back from being on the pill to get pregnant. Sorry I wasn't more helpful. Just trying to at least give u what I've experienced and my friend. God has a plan for you so I will pray u make the right decision but I truly believe no matter what u choose to do, it will all be in God's hands if he thinks another baby is in your future! Prayers and blessings to you dear!
