I had emergency surgery 4 weeks ago around the time I was ovulating for a ruptured hemorrhagic corpus luteum cyst that caused ovarian torsion and internal bleeding...also had to have tissue removed. At the time of surgery my left ovary was swollen to almost the same size as my uterus.. fun times..had the normal bleeding after surgery, brown discharge etc but today makes 6 weeks since my last period and it finally started...I was told to expect a heavy period and painful cramps...but today when… read more

I had a tubal ligation 4 years ago, so I dont think I would be pregnant but with the extent of issues I had and the corpus luteum cyst normally being a sign of early pregnancy, I took so many tests afterwards to make sure since they only performed a urine hcg test and not a blood test, and now im convinced home preg tests are the devil and always show some sort of second line there whether its evaps or indents.. its so frustrating!! waiting another week for my post op appt is going to be so nerve wrecking.

Thank you for the feedback, I also had a similar surgery when I was 15!! this is the 2nd time this has happened except when the cyst ruptured at 15, it took half of my right ovary with it but that was so long ago that I could not remember what my period was like back then 😆 but the same happened this time...I had really heavy bleeding the day after surgery and it lasted for a few days but I was told to be expecting that, since my body had to expel the excess tissue, then my doc said that my normal period would not come until 4-6 weeks after surgery, but it would most likely be more intense, which has been true for the cramps but not bleeding.

Hi! I had a similar surgery almost three years ago (ovarian cyst that caused torsion, emergency laparoscopy) and the next day I started bleeding HEAVILY it was like a really bad period (I was 15 at the time so I didn’t rush to the doctor, I just talked to my mom and she said that it was normal). Before that I used to have normal to heavy periods for 5 or 6 days, with a lot of pain (the month before my surgery I didn’t have my period though). After surgery the pain got a hundred times worst and my periods starting getting lighter and lighter until it was just a couple of days and little to no blood. I’m so sorry that I don’t know if this is normal, I have had really bad experiences with doctors… but I can assure you that you’re not alone. I hope you get answers soon!
